Hours:  90 hours for the beauty or health professional and traditional tattoo artists with no prior permanent makeup training, 70 hours for the experienced permanent makeup technician who wishes to included either the SofTap® hand tool or rotary machine in their practice.

Pre-class Study Required – An average of 40 hours of home study is required for on-site class preparation.

Requirements - Beauty and medical professionals over the age of 18 and permanent makeup technicians who have had prior training are offered this course.

The basic theory and technical aspects of permanent makeup and pigment lightening removal are presented in this class agenda with a strong focus on hands on training practices.

Once registration is complete, students are provided with the following pre-class study materials:

Preparing to offer Permanent Makeup:

Students are provided with a check- list of activities that are suggested to either be completed, or in active process by the class date.  These activities are focused on administrative issues associated with business requirements, i.e., elements of  preparing to offer permanent makeup.

Makeup Design Classes

The on-site permanent cosmetic class period must be devoted primarily to theory, health and safety, tool usage, and the actual application of permanent cosmetics on models.  If you are not confident in the application of makeup, especially eyebrows, I recommend you take a makeup application class from Rose Hill, the makeup artist for the stars. She offers a variety of makeup application classes at convenient times in the Los Gatos area.  Her web site is www.makeupcrew.com. Although facial morphology in relation to permanent cosmetics is presented in detail in class, being prepared by taking a makeup class from Rose Hill only enhances your on-site permanent cosmetic class experience. This is also a wonderful addition to your advertising credentials.  As you will note on Rose Hill’s web site, she has provided makeup services to movie stars, political dignitaries, and television and magazine personalities.

 A Comprehensive Manual for Pre-class Study;

This A to Z permanent makeup training manual is there for you in the beginning, and for reference purposes during your career.  For ease of locating specific topics discussed and studied in the industry the manual is cataloged into identifiable subjects.

A Stretching Techniques Video:

A systematic problem for technicians is the development of their stretching techniques utilized during procedures.  Stretching techniques represent an element of permanent makeup procedures that enable proper implantation of pigment into the upper dermal layer of the skin.  The Faces By Design Stretching Techniques video is one of a kind within the industry.

Salt Water Tattoo Lightening/Removal Class

History:

Pigment removal from body and cosmetic tattoos has fascinated the industry for decades.  Many products have been tried, each promising the ability to remove ink that has been placed under the skin without adverse affects.  As an instructor, I saw the benefits of  technicians being able to correct small indiscretions and to help others that desired a new design, the softening of a color, or the removal of unwanted pigment.  The primary issue was, what product should be used and who would insure it if the product tested produced favorable results?

Early in 2002, I and Mary Jane Haake, with the support of Susan Preston, owner of PPIB Insurance Brokerage, the largest insurer of body and cosmetic tattoo artists, set out to develop a protocol for the lightening and or selected removal of tattoos.  Many products were tried, but our primary research was focused on salt.  Yes, salt.  Salt is found in the body and as a result would eliminate the allergic and  possible skin damage concerns associated with other products being used for pigment removal. We found that by introducing higher concentrates of salt in comparison to those found in the cells of the skin, this triggered a reaction under the skin called osmosis.

By August, 2002, adequate testing, supporting documentation and photographs associated with utilizing salt as a pigment lightener and removal product were in place.  Our findings and protocol were presented to PPIB for submission to Lloyds of London for consideration for insuring technicians in our industry that wanted to offer this type of service. In October 2002, Lloyd’s of London approved the protocol and opened a limited $20,000.00 policy to our industry through PPIB.

Training:

To support the industry’s need for training, I have designed a 4 hour training presentation. The presentation supports the written protocol, provides technical direction as to how to proceed with the lightening and/or removal of pigment under the skin, and specific related procedures that are not covered by the newly offered insurance program. Certification of Attendance is included with the $250.00 cost of the training, which when presented to PPIB, enables the technician to obtain insurance coverage.  For those in the permanent makeup and/or tattoo industry for less than 2 years, this class is required by PPIB before insurance coverage can be issued.

This presentation is being offered in several locations in the United States.  Call today for times and locations near you.

Continuing Education/Advanced Classes:

As an instructor, I find that at times even though a student is well trained in the fundamentals of permanent makeup, there are advanced techniques for each of the three procedures, eyebrows, eyeliners and lips, that technicians desire to learn.  There may be just one of the procedures that they wish to address on an advanced technique level, or readdress on the fundamental level if desired. The choice is each student's to make.

As a result, I developed several one day classes specifically for that purpose, to identify, address and focus on one particular procedure from a to z introducing specialized advanced techniques not normally studied in depth during a fundamental course.

During this class, the words “eyebrow procedures” will take on a whole new meaning.  I suppose to some an eyebrow by any other name is still and eyebrow, however I believe when applied with the purpose of producing the illusion of a complimentary design and color with texture and movement, technicians become artists, and artists create.

Designing Eyebrows:

Utilizing facial morphology as a baseline for design, technicians will learn to create eyebrow designs that result in a fresh, youthful appearance for their clients.

Selecting Color:

If shape is the defining factor, color runs a close second to a successful eyebrow procedure.  Technicians must know their pigments.  Utilizing a color matrix developed for ease of client skin tone to pigment selection and provided in your class handouts, technicians can become more confident in their pigment selection offerings to their clients.

Needle Configuration Selection:

There’s a reason there are a host of needle configurations to choose from. They assist in the creation of different illusions.  Your eyebrow class handout includes a list of needle configurations that cross reference to the techniques they are most commonly used for, thus simplifying the selection process.

Creating Texture, Definition, and the Illusion of Movement:

Design and color set the tone for the eyebrow to be applied.  This class takes application techniques to a higher level.  Learn to create the illusion of movement with texture techniques of powder, shaded texture strokes, and a host of variations of multicolored hairline stroke applications.

You can as a technician apply eyebrows, or you can learn to apply illusions that appear to be an eyebrow.  There is a difference….

Eyeliner Class:

Cost: Cost: $800.00 per day per student

Class Duration – 8 Hours

Class Handouts – Yes

Hands on Experience - Yes

Pre-Class Study Required – Yes

Certification of Attendance Provided – Yes, 8 Hours Continuing Education Credits

Because I have prospective clients that only know the realm of their own eyeliner design, I have developed a menu of eyeliner designs to choose from during the consultation.  This saves a lot of time when discussing eyeliner design.  Although most clients arrive with the design they prefer applied topically, but is the one that will serve them aesthetically the best for the longest period of time?  The skin around the eyes changes frequently and differently around both eyes.  That’s why we are called the experts, we need to fast forward time and apply our knowledge of the skin to the advise we offer to our clients for eyeliner design.  The Eyeliner Class introduces you to many facets of eyeliners that you may or may have yet to explore:

Design:

Learn to offer a variety of dome and tapered tip placements to enhance the size and shape of the eyes.

Color:

Color plays an intricate part in the overall appearance of the eyeliner in relation to the client’s eye color.  Your class handouts include a matrix of pigment selection to client eye color that avoids trendy, and optimizes your client’s natural eye coloring.

Needle Selections:

Needle configurations are to the tattoo artists as makeup brushes are to the conventional makeup artists.  Creating the preciseness of taper tips, raised domes and the intricate delicate lines that comprise the world of eyeliners and lash enhancements is contingent upon the knowledge of what configuration creates what illusion.  A matrix of needle configuration to most common use is provided in your class handouts.

Techniques:

What is your vision?  Each procedure should be the result of a vision of the end product, and that vision created with specialized techniques.  Learn to create the impression of a lower eyelash root line for those with non- existent or pale eyelashes. Thicker eyeliners are more easily applied with a technician applied temporary template and applied with techniques that ensure application of that design before the template is no longer visible from procedural handling.  Shading over existing eyeliner can greatly soften the appearance of a stark dark line across the eyelid.  These techniques and more are offered during the eyeliner class.
